Helpful Info From Your Student Loan Servicer

What to Expect in Each Stage

In School

While you’re in school, you have the option to pay down your student loans including paying down interest on any unsubsidized loans. Whatever you decide while in school, understanding the student loan repayment process will make you better prepared when it’s time to repay your loans.

Visit our website for more resources on what to do and expect while you’re in school. In the meantime, we’ll keep in touch with you through every stage of your student loan, and remember: We’re here to answer your questions, day or night.

In Grace

The grace period is the six-month window between when you graduate or drop below half-time status, and when you have to start paying back your Federal Stafford Loans. During grace, we'll keep in touch with you about your upcoming payment amounts, repayment schedule, and repayment plan options.

During your grace period, you should also find out whether you have loans with other servicers by visiting nslds.ed.gov. You’ll need your PIN to get started.

In Repayment

During the final stage of your loan repayment process, you'll pay back your student loans. When you’re in repayment, you have options to make paying your loans as affordable and convenient as possible.

By logging in to your account at Nelnet.com, you can choose how you want to receive statements and reminders, how you want to pay, and which repayment plan works best for your budget. Also, if you’re having trouble making payments, we’ll work with you to help you stay up to date on your student loans.
